The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA) region has consistently been one of the poorest parts of Pakistan. Both areas lag behind other provinces across a wide range of social and economic indicators, with a lag even more pronounced when viewed through a gender lens. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has consistently experienced far higher rates of unemployment than the rest of Pakistan. While FATA is not included in such surveys to know exact situation, the unemployment issue in FATA is likely to be even more pronounced. Moreover, unemployment is particularly high among young men aged 15-30 which is the main resource pool for militant recruitment.
“This survey report comes at a critical point in time when the status of FATA is under deliberation with a focus on a vast range of governance reforms, improvement in service delivery and initiation of new livelihoods opportunities.
To ensure, all the fundamental and constitutional rights for citizens of FATA, the long term governance plan has been developed by Planning and Development department supported by PCNA-ISU, FATA.
