FDIHS launched by Honourable Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

“This survey report comes at a critical point in time when the status of FATA is under deliberation

with a focus on a vast range of governance reforms, improvement in service delivery and initiation of new livelihoods opportunities. Therefore findings of the survey will reverberate in the ongoing discourse about the future of FATA” said Mr. Mahtab Ahmad Khan, Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mr. Mahtab Ahmad Khan formally launched the FATA Development Indicator Household Survey report (FDIHS, 2013-14) here on Monday at Islamabad on 28th December, 2015. FATA Development Indicator household survey is carried out by the Bureau of Statistics, FATA Secretariat with a tripartite arrangement between, Pakistan Institute of Development Economics and the Institute of Management Sciences, Peshawar, with the financial support of Governance Support Project FATA-Multi Donor Trust Fund.

 “This Survey report comes at a critical point in time when the status of FATA is under deliberation with a focus on a vast range of governance reforms, improvement in service delivery and initiation of new livelihoods opportunities” said the Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mr. Mahtab Ahmad Khan after launching the FATA Development Indicators Household Survey Report (2013-14).

 “The survey report is a tool that will enable policy makers in the process of resource allocation, sectoral prioritization and subsequent monitoring and evaluation of the progress towards the desired goals and objectives which are the building blocks of the peaceful and prosperous future of area that we are envisaging and trying to achieve despite the age-long constraints and challenges” said Mahtab Ahmad khan on the occasion.

 He further praised the engagement of FATA youth in the process; “It is commendable to know that the educated youth from FATA was engaged in on-ground data collection, and in this way not only lending greater authenticity to the data but also a strong sense of ownership of the people of FATA. It is all the more heartening that the process has also contributed to the capacity building of our budding youthful talent from FATA besides BoS FATA and IM|Sciences.”

 The Governor KP joined the ceremony as Chief Guest, held by PCNA Implementation Support Unit FATA,. The Additional Chief Secretary FATA, Sec Planning and Development Department FATA, The World Bank’s, Multi Donor Trust Fund team, Development Partners, international donors, Academia, Coordinator of GSP-ISU FATA and the enumerators were also present on the occasion.

 Secretary Planning and development Department FATA Secretariat, Mr. Shakil Qadir Khan presented major findings of the survey report. He mentioned that the Literacy rate in FATA is now 33.3% and 11.8% of FATA youth (Age 15-24) is unemployed according to the latest statistics.  While talking about the ratio of health, water and sanitation data he added that only 8.9% of estimated population have access to piped drinking water, 38.3% of FATA households have flush latrines, Only 6.3% houses have underground drainage system and only 29.5% of births were attended by skilled health personals moreover the report says 0.7% children (Age 2-9) have at least one disability in overall FATA, furthermore 71.8% of FATA people use radio as source of information. 48.2% of household are using solar systems. The comparison of the DATA with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and National DATA was also presented to show the real picture of the development of FATA.  FATA need to increase per capita investment in the development.

 While talking about the value of the survey report Mr. Muhammad Zahoor, coordinator PCNA-ISU FATA said that the data provided in the report will be of practical and immediate use to all stakeholders inter alia the FATA Secretariat, development partners, academia and CSOs by enabling them to carry out more effective planning. He further described the objectives of the survey that are to make available quality and reliable DATA/ statistics on key development and socio economics parameters to FATA planners and policy makers and importantly the capacity development of the Bureau of Statistics and FATA secretariat for conducting  future studies.

 FATA Development Indicator Household survey report 2013-14 has more than 50 development indicators,. Before this survey 1998 census was the only source for the development planning baselines, the absence of any reliable data prompted FATA Secretariat to launch an initiative for conducting the FDIHS 2013-14. During this exercise 4,070 household were surveyed, all the agencies and frontier regions were included except north Waziristan and parts of Orakzai and Khyber agencies because of security situation. This report also shows the comparison of FATA data with national and provincial status.

 Secretary Planning and Development FATA presented a Shield to the honorable Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in recognition to His services for FATA. Secretary Planning and Development FATA also formally presented the FATA Development Indicator Household survey report 2013-14 to The Governor KP. 
The data will be used as baseline for development planning of FATA.
